Frequently Asked Questions
Plain-language answers based on current B.C. government CSIL information.
What is CSIL?
CSIL is a self-directed home support option for eligible clients that provides funding directly to the CSIL employer so they can arrange and manage authorized home support services.
Who manages the money?
The CSIL employer manages the CSIL funds under the terms of the CSIL agreement and the approved care plan.
Can someone else manage CSIL for me?
Yes. A client support group or an individual designated through a valid Representation Agreement may act as the CSIL employer, subject to program requirements.
How is the funding amount calculated?
The funding amount is based on the applicable CSIL hourly rate multiplied by the number of assessed home support hours, subject to the program's rules and the individual care plan.
Do I have to pay for CSIL?
There can be an assessed client contribution based on income. Certain government income benefits can result in no daily rate, and a temporary reduction may be available in cases of serious financial hardship.
Can I hire my own care providers?
Yes. The CSIL model is designed for the CSIL employer to directly employ care providers for authorized home support services.
Where do I apply?
Start with your local health authority's Home and Community Care office. A health-care professional can also make a referral.
Does this website determine eligibility?
No. Eligibility is determined through the health authority assessment process.
